Dentist is well known professionals that study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral cavity that are relevant to the general health of an individuals. They play big a role in the society not only restoring the tooth that is being lost but improving the self-confidence of a person. To build this mission, American Dental association or ADA develops some specialties to improve the goal in nurturing the dental needs of the people. There are different types of Dentist and these are:



An Orthodontist is a dental practitioner that specialized in dealing with diagnosis, prevention, interception and correction of malocclusion of the teeth that occurs during at the early years of age and the proceeding years. It guides the patient by maintaining a straight teeth and healthier mouth, because of probable sequence of disease because of misaligned and crowded tooth/teeth present. Orthodontics was also known as the first specialty formed in the field ofdentistry and it has a special training in a two to four years after graduated in dental medicine course.



An Endodontist is a dental specialist that takes up to two or more years after graduating in Dental Medicine which handles the difficult cases injury to the pulp that general dentist may not managed. Endodontist usually saves a tooth thru root canal treatment instead of extracting it. Endodontics is the branch of dentistry wherein it is concerned with the anatomy, morphology, physiology, pathology and treatment of the human dental pulp and periradicular tissues. Its study and practice covers the basic and clinical sciences including biology of the normal pulp, the casue or the etiology, the type of pain that involves or alleviates, diagnosis of the disease, prevention and treatment of an injured pulp.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons


An Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons is an oral health care provider who specializes in treating and removal of abnormal growth of hard and soft tissues such cystic lesions, and cancerous lesions that may be detrimental to the health of the patient. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a branch of dentistry which deals in the diagnosis, surgical and treatment of defects, injuries during accident and progressive and invasive diseases that may interfere the functional and esthetic part of the oral cavity.



A Prosthodontist are dental experts aesthetic (cosmetic) restoration and replacement of tooth that is discolored, missing or lost. It usually additional three to four years of training after taking up dental medicine course.Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, treatment planning, and maintenance. The treatment includes the comfort, esthetics which restore the self self-confidence of the patient, and as well as the general health of an individual related with missing or incomplete. It helps the patient to chew and eat properly by bringing back the proper occlusion using artificial tooth wherein it offers fixed partial denture, removable partial denture, and complete denture (for geriatrics).


Pediatric dentists


A Pediatric dentists practice not only on the children but also children with special health care needs or those who are suffering for chronic physical, behavioral, developmental condition. Pediatric dentistry is one of the specialties in dentistry which deals in treating the oral health of infants and children ages (0-18 years old). The training usually takes up to two to three years after passing the board exam and it confines his/her practice in treating the children



A Periodontist are dental practitioners in treating the oral inflammation which is severely damage or complex cases are involved such as swelling of the gingiva (gums), irritation of the hard and soft tissues, and gingival bleeding. Periodontics is one of the specialties in dentistry in dealing with the prevention of disease, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth such as the periodontium. It involves probing the destruct tissues, deep scaling and polishing, stabilize the acidity of the saliva, restoring the function and esthetics and giving the oral hygiene instruction to maintains the oral health of the patient as well as to motivate him/her.

A Dental Radiologists is a health care provider that expert in taking radiograpghs and interpretation of different type ofx-ray images and information that are used in the diagnosis and treatment of questionable diseases, defects, and damages in the mouth and jaw that cannot be seen in the naked eye. Dental Radiography is one of the best inventions that contribute in dental practice of a dentist.

A Dental Pathologists is a specialty of dentistry that deals with the type, detection, and management of diseases that affects the oral and maxillofacial area of the patient. It is a science that Identify the etiology, behavior, and effects of these diseases. It detects in aid of a microscope images that may varies from normal to abnormal specimens.

A Public Health Dentists is the oral health care provider who handles the programs for schools, providing instruction on oral hygiene, to give information of the disease that may be present in the mouth, answering common questions about oral health of an individual. Dental public health is widely known as the science and art of preventing and controlling of dental diseases and support dental health through organized society efforts. It is structure of dental practice which serves the community voluntarily or free will. It usually practice outside the dental office, and they usually offers tooth extraction, oral fluoridation, dental education and awareness and etc. (It depends to the goals of the community organizers).

Forensic Dentists


A Forensic Dentists deals in accurate handling, inspection and evaluation of teeththru dental confirmation and identification of the person to whom the teeth belong. It is a way of identifying people by their teeth such as bite marks dental records has a big role in it.

Cosmetic dentist


Cosmetic dentist focuses on enhancement dentalesthetics thru proper color, shape, size, alignment and the natural looking of the tooth that is being replaced. Common practices of a cosmetic dentist are teeth whitening, veneers, implants and etc. that may improve the smile of the patient.

General Dentist (DDS)


A General Dentist (DDS) is your primary care dental provider that usually took Doctor of Dental medicine that identify cause, diagnosis, plan, treats, and manages the overalloral healthcare needs, including oral prophylaxis, root canals therapy, tooth fillings, crowns, veneers, bridges, dentures and dental health education.
